In an ongoing commitment to assist surgeons in reducing patient complications and gaining efficiencies in the OR, J&J MedTech have released a buttress which is compatible with both the ECHELON™ and SureForm™ stapling platforms. One of the key goals we had in mind was to make the buttress easy and simple to use. Compared with the 12 steps involved in the work flow of applying Gore, ECHELON™ Staple Line Reinforcement, otherwise known as SLR only has 4 steps.*1,2 The easy click and go applicator means ECHELON™ SLR can be loaded in less than 20 seconds.3 In fact, 97% of nurses surveyed agree that ECHELON ENDOPATH™ Staple Line Reinforcement is easier to use.3 You mentioned reducing patient complications such as bleeding and leaks is important to you. ECHELON™ SLR is made from the same trusted materials used in VICRYL™ and PDS™ sutures and has been shown to reduce PALs to 3.8% in a prospective multi-centre clinical study in the US4 compared with a reported incident rate of 5-19%.5 This benefit was replicated in a study conducted in Japan where air leaks reduced to 6.3% in patients where ECHELON™ SLR was used compared with 28.5% where no buttress was used.6 In addition, ECHELON™ SLR exhibited the same hemostasis as GORE® SEAMGUARD® Staple Line Reinforcement with 45% less material left behind.†,7,8 It also has greater strength retention during the critical wound healing period.9 Would you be willing to trial using ECHELON™ SLR in your next 10 cases so that you can see the results for yourself and get feedback on ease of use from your team?

† ECHELON ENDOPATH™ Staple Line Reinforcement vs. GORE® SEAMGUARD® Staple Line Reinforcement. Hemostasis: evaluated via gross observations of firings requiring intervention in 1.38mm to 2.32mm thick porcine ileum and jejunum tissues, evaluated via a 5-point Likert scale resulting in statistically no difference in Likert scores. Material: based on average total surface area measurements (26.79cm2 vs. 49.21cm2)
